What Is A PV System ?
A hybrid PV system consists of 3 major componets:
- PV modules which convert solar radiation into DC power
- A battery bank which stores this DC power
- An inverter which converts DC power to AC power
Your household applicances require AC power to operate while the inverter is seen as the “brains” of the system which controls various system parameters.
These 3 components work hand in hand to form a high performing photovoltaic system!
What to check beforehand
Before you consider a solar solution, lets check the following
Do you own the property ? PV systems have a life expectancy of 2
0 years, should you not own the property, its best to get the owners consent first
If you stay in an estate or complex, have you checked with the body corporate if the installation of solar systems is permitted ?
South facing roofs are normally not used for solar panel installation as they receive very little sun light during the day. For optimal performance, panels should be installed on North facing roofs, with East or West facing as a second option
Are there trees on your property that cast a shadow over large portions of your rooftop during the day ? This will have an adverse effect on the solar system as generation will be compromised
Benefits
- Power Supply during Load Shedding
- Reduced Utility Bill
- Green Energy
- No moving parts mean no breakdowns and low maintenance
